Canyon Echo Flower Farm, established in 2022 is located in Park City, Utah at Parleys Summit at nearly 7,000 feet elevation. It started as a dream to fill our yard with an abundance of colorful dahlias to immerse ourselves within nature and reconnect with the earth by growing flowers. With three young children we looked forward to building something close to home where we could get our hands dirty, feet muddy and have a reason to spend time together outdoors.
As first generation farmers, Dani Culver (farmer florist) and her husband Dan learned from scratch what it would take to run a flower farm. We had a vision, a tractor and a lot of dahlia tubers. The first year growing we planted 250 dahlia tubers in the ground and did not know what to expect and what the flowers would yield.
We quickly learned that growing in the mountains would challenge us with late lingering spring snow and the most unpredictable spring and early fall frost. We knew that if we wanted to keep the flowers alive and make the most of our season that we would need to build a high tunnel to shelter the flowers from the elements.
Our first year growing we built by hand a high tunnel. This provided the flowers with enough protection from the elements to keep the flowers alive into the middle of October. There was snow on the ground outside of the tunnel and a colorful abundance of flowers still in bloom on the inside.
The following year we expanded our growing space to include two additional uncovered dahlia and cut flower fields, and planted a few hundred peonies to begin establishing perennial plants on the property. Dahlias are known to rapidly multiply and our farm quickly grew from our original 250 tubers to over a thousand dahlia plants.
Each year as we grow we have experimented with new cut flower varieties to see what thrives in our unique environment. We grow our flowers organically without the use of any pesticides and herbicides. We fight off natural elements like grasshoppers and earwigs by letting our chickens free range on the pests. With honey bees pollinating the flowers and children running barefoot in the garden it has been important to us to grow our flowers in the safest way we can.
Before our home and the flower farm was established the property existed as a horse pasture. The name of the farm Canyon Echo came from the two horses that use to graze the property ‘Canyon’ and ‘Echo’. One day when our children are older we will welcome horses back to the property again.
We are passionate about growing flowers, especially dahlias and enjoy being able to share their beauty and connect with our local community through flowers. We currently sell our flowers directly to florists wholesale by the stem and have seasonal bouquet subscriptions available for locals. During our open flower season we take on a few micro weddings and elopements.
